Opening Ceremony

The first day of the Games was devoted to the Opening Ceremony.

The spectacular Opening Ceremony begins when the Queen’s Baton Relay reaches its climax at Celtic Park and the Queen reads the message to the athletes officially opening the Games.

Quick fact

The first Commonwealth Games took place in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. Four hundred athletes from eleven countries competed over 6 sports and 59 events.
